Talking therapy is speaking with a trained mental health professional with the aim of working through personal difficulties that get in the way of being effective in your daily life. This could be related to personal or professional goals, improving your relationships, your parenting, or a specific mental health difficulty you or a loved one is faced with.

MindFlow Psychology can offer talking therapy to children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a range of difficulties, including:

  • disordered eating behaviour and negative body image

  • anxiety and panic

  • obsessive-compulsive behaviour

  • stress and burnout

  • relationship difficulties

  • low mood

  • emotion dysregulation

  • coping with chronic pain or symptoms of medical issues

  • adjustment difficulties and grief

Therapy can be conducted in person or online via videoconferencing technology (e.g. Zoom) and will involve an initial session, assessment and treatment. Initial sessions will typically take up to 90 minutes to provide time for introductions, a discussion of confidentiality, privacy, and expectations, and importantly, time for you to share the thinking and challenges that have led you to seek out therapy. Thereafter sessions will typically last 50-60 minutes. For children and young people, treatment is likely to involve a combination of individual and parent/family sessions.

Duration of treatment and frequency of sessions is dependent on the individual’s presenting difficulties and personal circumstances. This will be discussed in the initial session and will be reviewed regularly to ensure clarity and that sessions are effective and realistic for client and clinician.
