Maddy, Gymnast

“I wanted to be more confident in competitions, I was too nervous, and I knew that it was not helping me be the best gymnast I could be. My coaches suggested I talk to a sports psychologist to help me with the mental side of gymnastics. When I first met Phoebe, I really liked her as she is very smiley and nice. I like talking to her because she is an ex-gymnast and I feel she understands what I am going though. She explained everything so I understood that what I was feeling was affecting my performance. She gave me heaps of useful information and always emailed the notes from our sessions to me afterwards so that I could go through them. I started trying to use the mindfulness techniques she gave me in training which helped me with learning new skills. I am also now starting to feel more confident in competition, but I know there is still more work for me to do to gain more confidence. I really like talking things through with Phoebe as she makes me realise that it is normal to feel the way I feel and that there is always something I can do to help myself. She is really great.”
